ABSTRACT

I’ve had aspirations of becoming a lawyer ever since watching helplessly as my mother endured the legal system as a continued source of abuse by her now ex-husband. The only way I could possibly help remedy situations such as this was to immerse myself with learning about our court system in hopes to make a difference in the future. I decided to attend a Stanford University law program in the summer of 2015, it was a good start and I was hooked. Due to the wonderful opportunity of interning at Wayne Lancaster, P.C. I’ve gained a greater knowledge of our family court system. By Mr.Lancaster allowing me to sit in on several pending cases I learned that each case is unique, requiring a great sense of compassion and attention to detail. I also  learned a great deal about the actual legal process and things that go along with it such as  interviewing clients and reviewing documentation for pending cases,
I was also able to gain a great amount of knowledge regarding the operation of an office that will certainly be helpful no matter the employment I seek in the future. By following Ms. Bradford I learned that a paralegal is the backbone of any law office. I was taught the importance of organization, proper filing, prioritizing, keeping supplies in stock, billing and  how to communicate with clerks of the court as well as proper interaction with clients that are going through an emotional ordeal. I am thankful for the amazing opportunity offered to me by this program and look forward to being able to offer the same learning experience in the future as a lawyer myself.
